Checkers

Capture all opponent pieces or leave them with no legal moves to win!

How to Play

Goal

Capture all of your opponent's pieces, or block them so they have no legal moves.

Basic Moves

  • 🔴 Red pieces move diagonally up the board (one square at a time)
  • ⚫ Black pieces move diagonally down the board
  • Click a glowing piece to select it, then click a highlighted square to move

Captures

  • Jump diagonally over an adjacent opponent piece to capture it — the piece is removed
  • If a capture is available, you must take it (forced capture)
  • After capturing, if another jump is available with the same piece, you must continue (multi-jump)

Kings ★

When a piece reaches the opponent's back row it becomes a King — marked with a ★ — and can move diagonally in all four directions instead of just forward.

Controls

  • Click or tap a highlighted piece to select it
  • Click or tap a green square to move or jump there
FAQ

What does "forced capture" mean?

If any of your pieces can jump over an opponent, you must make a capture that turn — you cannot choose a regular move instead.

Can I choose which piece to capture with?

Yes — when multiple pieces can capture, you choose which one to use. Click the piece you want to jump with to select it.

What does the ★ star on a piece mean?

A ★ means that piece has been crowned a King. It happens automatically when a piece reaches the opponent's back row. Kings can move diagonally in all four directions instead of just forward.

Can a King be captured?

Yes — Kings are captured just like regular pieces. Their advantage is movement in all four diagonal directions.

Are my wins saved?

Yes — wins for each side are saved in your browser's local storage and persist between sessions.

What does the timer track?

The timer counts how long each game lasts, starting the moment you click "Play Game" and stopping when the game ends. Your fastest winning time is saved as your Best — it only updates when you win.

How strong is the Hard AI?

Hard uses deep minimax search with alpha-beta pruning, making it quite challenging. Try Easy or Medium first to get comfortable with the rules.
